Ner Tamid Ezra Habonim Egalitarian Minyan meets in West Rogers Park and is run by its members for the benefit of its members. We have “Egalitarian” in our name because men and women participate equally in our services, and we have a non-hierarchical structure. We use the Sim Shalom prayer book and are affiliated with the Conservative movement.
The only way to tell if the Minyan is the right place for you is come and experience one of our services. You are welcome to join us any Shabbat or Yom Tov morning beginning at 9:15 a.m. at 2800 W. Sherwin (in the Temple Menorah building on California between Touhy and Howard). Following morning services, Kiddush is a great opportunity to meet our friendly members! Additionally, we hold Kabbalat Shabbat services on Friday evenings and Mincha/Maariv services (with a sumptuous Seudah Shlishit!) on Saturday evenings. There is also a daily morning minyan at 6:45 A.M. during the week and 8:00 A.M. on Sunday mornings and legal holidays. We offer a supervised “Gan Shabbat” for children ages 1-13 from 10am-12pm on Shabbat morning. Gan is a comfortable place for the kids to relax, play, have a snack and visit with friends if they are not able to sit with their parents for the whole service. Well-behaved adults are also welcome!
The Minyan offers volunteer and giving opportunities through our Tzedakah committee. Some members volunteer at the JUF Uptown Café, while others collect items to share with our sister community in Kineshma, Russia.
The Minyan has many regular events throughout the year: a group break-fast after Yom Kippur, a Sukkah walk, a Hanukkah party, a Friday night winter potluck, a Purim shpiel, a Tikkun Leyl Shavuot,
and a Shavuot picnic. A highlight of the year is our annual Shabbaton study weekend. We have a number of additional learning programs throughout the year.
